Places to visit in Trashi Gang

Trashigang or Tashigang, is a town in eastern Bhutan and the district capital of the Trashigang Dzongkhag.
The town lies to the east side of the valley above the Drangme Chhu river just south of where it is joined by the Gamri River.

Trashigang is the largest district in Bhutan.It has three sub-districts and fifteen gewogs.

Rangjung, Kanglung and Wamrong are some of the major towns under Trashigang district.

Trashigang Dzong

Trashigang Dzong (The Fortress of the Auspicious Hill) is one of the largest dzong fortress in Bhutan, located in Trashigang District of Bhutan. The fortress was built in 1659 to defend against Tibetan invasions. The dzong hosted a monastic community besides acting as the central administrative center of the Trashigang District.



The fortress was built atop a ledge with steep cliffs on three sides, overlooking the Drangme Chhu and Gamri Chhu rivers. The construction of the dzong was prophesied by Ngawang Namgyal who ordered the Penlop (Governor) of Trongsa, Chhogyal Minjur Tempa to put down local chieftains and construct the dzong.
