Wangdue Phodrang

A well-deserved tourism hub in Central Bhutan, WangduePhodrang offers discerning tourists an array of natural and cultural delights. As with most other districts the WangduePhodrang district is also dominated by a dzong (monastery + official quarters).



Located in the south of Punakha, this district is also famous for its fine bamboo products, slate and stone carvings.

Wangdue Phodrang Dzong

Sitting on top of the hill at the confluence of Punakha Chhu and Tang Chhu rivers, WangduephodrangDzong is town’s most visible features. This 1638 built Dzong sits on top of a high rising cliff overlooking Wangdue town. The dzong tragically caught fire in 2012 and the gigantic work plan of rebuilding it will go on till the year 2021.

Rinchegang Village

Rinchegang Village is known for its architecture and history which lies just a few km away from the WangdueDzong. The small village is known to Bhutan’s finest stone carvers and the traditional Bhutanese method of Stone Masonry.

Black Mountain National Park

Jigme SingyeWangchuck National Park (formerly Black Mountains National Park) covers an area of 1,730 square kilometres (670 sq mi) in central Bhutan. It protects a large area of the Black Mountains, a sub−range of the Himalayan Range System.

The rocky black mountain park is one of the largest protected natural reserves in Bhutan. Exotic varieties of fauna are found inside this park and they include musk deer (their glandular secretions are more expensive than gold), goat antelopes, red pandas, fierce wild boars, golden skinned langurs and tigers.the crowning glory of the park are Clouded leopards one of the most dangerous and beautiful arboreal members.
