Gasa

Gasa Dzongkhag, the northernmost district of the country adjoins the districts of Punakha, Thimphu and Wangdue Phodrang and with Tibet to its north. This starkly beautiful region with elevations ranging from 1500 to 4,500 m experiences extremely long and cold winters and short but beautiful summers. The dominant language of the district is Dzongkha, which is the national language.

Laya Village

Laya village is located at an altitude of 3800 m above sea level. About three night trek will take you to the beautiful untouched village. One can witness beautiful snow capped Himalayas, alpine grassland, wide green pastures, meadow with different varieties of blossoms and numerous passes. One can also experience culture and traditions which has been surviving for so long in the north of this small country Bhutan. The Snow Leopard trek or the grand Snowman Trek will converge through Laya.

Gasa Dzong

Locally known as the Tashi Thongmon Dzong, the fortress served as a defending barrack in the 17th century. The fortress is unique with a circular shape and three watch towers that are placed at strategic points. The beauty of the dzong is heightened during clear days with view of Mt. Gangboom.

Lunana Village

Lunana is the most remote village of Gasa District. In this village, one can witness and experience the life of nomads residing amongst the glaciers and snows. The nomads in this village make their living and earns from Yak, Sheep and cordycep harvesting. The nomads here know a lot on medicinal herbs and have benefited a lot from cordycep harvesting.

Hot Springs

Gasa Hot Spring known as Gasa Tshachu, is one of the famous national heritage, which draws Bhutanese from all over the country and tourists too. This is one of the most popular springs in the country and visit often not only by tourists but local people as well.

To get to the Gasa Hot Spring, visitors must trek for approximately 40 minutes from the nearby road to the springs located on the valley floor. There are three bath houses at the Gasa Tshachu. One of the bath houses contains a large bathing pool and the remaining two each have two smaller pools. The water temperature varies in each of the pool so visitors can choose the one that they like best. Bathing facilities have also been provided to ensure that the Hot Springs remain clean and hygienic.

The hot spring has medical properties; it has provided hope to countless patients. It is known that, many of the diseases can be healed if we take a hot dip in it.
